High-quality case publishing

We have made it easy to publish your high-quality surgical case open-access and peer-reviewed.

The Journal of Plastic, Breast and Reconstructive Surgery (JPBRS) is created by specialist plastic surgeons from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the Czech Republic, England, Germany and Switzerland.

All high-quality cases related to Plastic, Breast & Reconstructive Surgery are invited for submission and publication. Submit your step-by-step procedure and reach surgeons all over the world, open-access.

Journal focus

We focus on publishing cases showing step-by-step procedures in Plastic, Breast & Reconstructive Surgery — how you perform a specific procedure or your innovative surgical techniques.

We also publish unique or rare medical and surgical conditions/cases related to Plastic, Breast & Reconstructive Surgery.

Editorial board policy

We invite surgeons from all over the world to submit high-quality cases to JPBRS. Only cases written in English are accepted for publication. The text must be clear and logical, and the photos must be of high quality.

Our editorial board and reviewers emphasise the following:

• High quality of photos/videos.
• High quality of written text in English.
• Logical clinical pre-operative considerations.
• Result of the final solution of the case.
• Reproducibility of the case, following it step-by-step.
• Quality of references, pearls and pitfalls.
• Overall presentation and mediation of the case.

Editors and reviewers may give recommendations and corrections to authors, which must be re-written by the authors and afterwards accepted for publication in JPBRS. The editors reserve the right to make editorial changes, and accepted articles may be subject to further copy-editing to conform to journal style.

All submitted cases are first assessed by the editors. Papers suitable for JPBRS are then sent anonymised to a minimum of two independent reviewers for assessment. The editors are responsible for the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection.

Policy for reviewers

We believe reviewers should be paid for their excellent work as peer-reviewers; therefore part of the article processing charge (APC) goes directly to the reviewers. All peer-reviews are anonymous. Reviewers give authors valuable input and corrections to help them succeed in publishing the case.

Ethical aspects

Any procedures or results involving humans and/or animals must live up to international standard care.

Publishing requirements & limitations

Abstract

An abstract of between 50–100 words must be submitted. This abstract may be used for publishing on the front page or any other media.

Photos

High-quality photos are preferred. Photos of the procedure should be taken with good lighting and from the same angles where possible. Resolution must be at least 300 ppi and at least 100 × 100 mm. At least 5 photos must be submitted, including a before photo, pre-operative photos and a follow-up photo.

Step-by-step photos. All cases must be published with at least a pre-operative photo, 3 per-operative photos and a final result photo. 3-, 6- and 12-month follow-up photos are also of great interest.

Illustrations

High-quality illustrations are preferred. Resolution must be at least 300 ppi and at least 100 × 100 mm.

References

All cases must have at least one reference. References are written as “Publication name”, “Author names and affiliations”, “DOI number”.

Article Processing Charge (APC)

Cases submitted for the Case Competition before the deadline take part in that year’s Case Competition. The winning and top-3 cases are peer-reviewed and published with no article processing charge (no publication fee). Cases that do not win or reach the top 3 are offered peer-reviewed publishing at the minor cost of 250 USD.

Shared copyright

At JPBRS we share the copyright between you, as author, and our journal. The author is therefore allowed to use photos, text, illustrations and videos for all purposes — education, presentations, social media, scientific research etc. — without our permission. It is not allowed to use photos published in JPBRS to publish in another scientific journal, as this may violate the other journal’s copyright.

Use of cases for the learning platform

We believe published cases should be used for educational purposes. Your case may therefore be used on the learning platform PlastSurgeon.com, so your case and knowledge help surgeons and patients around the world — anytime, anywhere.
